Biotech proponents claim GM foods are safe

The truth is that there have been no long-term feeding studies conducted on humans and there is inadequate safety testing on GMOs even with current regulations.

GM foods have been shown to have serious toxic or allergenic effects on lab and farm animals, which indicate major potential risks to human health.

They have been linked to male fertility problems, multiple organ damage, severe gut disorders and premature death.

Improperly tested gene-edited foods could cause serious or fatal illness over time. The range of damaging effects of GMOs reported in the scientific literature include:

  • Multiple organ damage.49
  • Liver and kidney damage.54,55,56
  • Potential effects on male fertility.49
  • Increased premature deaths linked to higher body weight and pituitary gland tumours.64
  • Immune responses47,50,51 and abnormal allergic-type reactions.52
  • Stomach lesions and unexplained deaths.61,62,63
  • Severe stomach inflammation and heavier uteruses.65
  • Excessive growth of gut lining and other intestinal abnormalities.59,60,44
  • Altered gut bacteria.47
  • Digestive disturbances.58
  • Hormonal disruption.54
  • Unexplained liver ageing.53
  • Liver enlargement.57
  • Disturbed function of the liver, pancreas, and testes.42,43,44,45
  • Enlarged lymph nodes51
  • Altered blood biochemistry.46,47,48
